Packaging protects our products from moisture, dirt and damage. It also supports processes in warehousing and retail. Its production requires materials and other resources. Much packaging is used only once and for a short period.
The packaging used depends on the product, the level of protection required and the processes involved in warehousing, shipping and retail.
WHERE WE STAND
Depending on the packaging, our paper and paper-based packaging uses materials with recycled content and/or FSC Mix-certified materials.
The materials used depend on the packaging concerned and its application. We have also tested various reusable and take-back solutions in the past.
CHALLENGES
The plastic film bags used for our primary packaging protect our products from moisture, dirt and damage, among other things. At the same time, they must meet the requirements of our own processes and those of our partners.
As part of a pilot project running since 2021, various primary packaging solutions have been tested. This also included examining whether plastic film bags could be dispensed with entirely. For certain products and processes, this is currently not possible because the bags are needed to protect the products and support processes throughout the supply chain.
OPTIMIZATION
As part of the pilot project, paper, biodegradable plastics and bio-based plastics were among the materials examined for use in primary packaging. In the tests, paper did not meet all requirements for product protection, shipping and storage. Some of the packaging was damaged or soiled during shipping. It also resulted in a larger transport and storage volume.
Based on the test results, plastic film bags containing recycled post-consumer plastic are used for selected items from the Marc O’Polo Casual and Marc O’Polo DENIM lines. The material claim relates to the plastic film bags, not to the items packed inside them.
Digital returns portal
Returns can be registered online with Marc O’Polo. This is why a returns label is not automatically included with every order.
For a return, the label can be printed at home and attached to the parcel. Alternatively, the code can be scanned with a smartphone at the nearest drop-off point.
TRANSPARENT SHIPPING COSTS
There are different ways to cover the cost of shipping goods. Except for a few special promotions, we have chosen to charge shipping costs for orders. The cost of the product and shipping are therefore shown separately.
Additional costs for processing and return shipping may arise in the event of a return.
Marc O’Polo Members do not pay shipping costs for a Click & Collect order delivered to a store.
