WHERE WOMEN LEAD

In Chittoor in southern India, Vishwaa Apparels is a production site with a distinctive company history. Dr Mythili Arumugam founded the company in 2008 as a first-generation entrepreneur. In 2019, Vishwaa Apparels opened its own model factory.

According to its own information, Vishwaa now produces around 1.14 million garments a year, including womenswear and menswear for Marc O’Polo. According to its own information, women lead 50% of the production lines. Around 1,300 people work at the Chittoor site; more than 80% of them are women.

According to its own information, Vishwaa uses the guidelines and tools of the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme for chemical and wastewater management. The company also records and evaluates the site’s environmental performance annually using the Higg Facility Environmental Module (Higg FEM).

"I want women to have the freedom to do what they want to do."

This statement by Dr Mythili Arumugam, founder of our production partner Vishwaa Apparels, describes a goal she connects with her work. As a first-generation entrepreneur in southern India, she focuses on employment and professional development opportunities for women.

CHANGE THROUGH RESPONSIBILITY

According to its own information, around 1,300 people work at her factory in Chittoor, more than 80% of them women. Employment gives female employees the opportunity to earn their own income and take on professional responsibility.

AN ASSET OF THEIR OWN

According to company information, employees receive gold coins every year in addition to their wages. Gold is traditionally also used as an investment in India. According to Mythili, the gold coins are intended to give women an asset of their own.
