Pineapple leaf fibre – from waste to resource
In our search for new ways and natural fibres to produce durable denim that combines special properties and looks good enough to eat, we have come across a fruit for the first time. This time, pineapple not only sweetens our summer in culinary terms, but also provides us with particularly soft yet robust, airy denim.
From snack to style
Pineapples are known for their taste. Fresh. Juicy. Summery. But they have even more to offer. The pineapple plant grows for around 24 months before its fruit can be harvested.
From waste to resource
A long-ignored by-product of pineapple cultivation is the plant's long leaves. Normally burned or left to rot in the fields, their potential, hidden deep within the fibres, is now being exploited. A win-win situation!
From leaf to fabric
The fibres are gently extracted from the leaves mechanically and without chemicals. They are washed to remove dirt, wax and other impurities. They are then dried in the sun and fresh air.
From summer to forever
Pineapple leaf fibre is exceptionally durable yet can be spun into fine yarn. A strong softie, so to speak, ideal for soft, lightweight summer denim that can last for many seasons.
From piña to perfection
Combined with organic cotton, the result is 13 per cent summer vibes and 87 per cent natural reliability. Breathable, durable – perfect for easy summer looks from Marc O'Polo DENIM.
