OUR PATH TO RESPONSIBLY MANUFACTURED PRODUCTS

We are increasingly using preferred fibres that have less impact on people, animals, nature, and the climate compared to their conventional counterparts. These range from organic and/or recycled fibres to fibres with an improved procurement process. Additionally, we strive to employ enhanced production processes or complete manufacturing within Europe, as well as material innovations and designs developed for the circular economy, wherever possible.

IMPROVED SOURCING [PLANT DERIVED]

Marc O'Polo uses, among other things, so-called 'Man Made Cellulosic Fibers' (MMCF). These are fibers made from cellulose, the main component of plant cell walls. Through various manufacturing processes, this cellulose is dissolved, liquefied into a spinning mass, and formed into different fibers. This includes viscose, lyocell, modal, and cupro. Currently, we source a large portion of our MMCFs from fiber manufacturers who use certified and controlled wood sources for their plant-based raw materials. The non-governmental organization Canopy Planet conducts an annual evaluation of these fiber manufacturers. This evaluation forms the basis of our procurement strategy: Only fiber manufacturers with a 'Green Shirt', the highest rating, are approved by us.

LENZING™ ECOVERO™

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ is sustainable viscose produced through a process that meets high environmental standards. The pulp used for this purpose comes from certified and controlled wood sources. According to Higg MSI, the responsible production of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibers consumes at least 50% less water and emits at least 50% less CO2 than conventional viscose fibers*, thus conserving valuable resources for future generations.

*The results are based on LCA standards (ISO 14040/44) and are available via Higg MSI (version 3.7).

TENCEL™ LYOCELL & TENCEL™ MODAL

TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers are industrially manufactured regenerated cellulose fibers from natural raw materials. The wood pulp is extracted from trees grown in sustainable forestry. Additionally, TENCEL™ Lyocell is produced in a closed production loop. Compared to generic Lyocell and Modal fibers, TENCEL™ Lyocell and TENCEL™ Modal are produced with at least 50% lower CO2 emissions and water consumption.*

ORANGE FIBER

Orange Fiber is an innovative lyocell fiber made from wood cellulose sourced from sustainably managed forests and from cellulose extracted from citrus juice production waste (peels and pulp residues) in Italy. The production of this regenerated cellulose fiber takes place in a closed-loop production process, where the chemicals used are reused or further processed. This man-made cellulose fiber is classified as a "Nextgen MMCF" (MMCF = Man-made cellulosic fibers) where, among other things, recycled material is used for pulp production. We support new methods and waste-reducing innovations in fiber manufacturing.

NAIA™ ACETATE

NAIA™ Acetate is a cellulose fiber derived from wood pulp sourced from sustainably managed forests. NAIA™ is produced in a secure, closed-loop process that is fully transparent from tree to fiber, with solvents being recycled back into the system for reuse.

NAIA™ RENEW

NAIA™ Renew is a circular fiber made from biobased and recycled content. This innovation is enabled by Eastman’s molecular recycling process, a technology that breaks down hard-to-recycle materials into their basic molecules to produce new cellulose acetate fibers without loss of quality.

CUPRO

Cupro is a versatile regenerated cellulose fiber made using what are known as cotton linters as its raw material. Cotton linters are the shorter fibers from the seed pod of the cotton plant, which are generated as waste during cotton oil production. This pulp is then used to produce Cupro in a closed-loop system with optimized energy and water consumption, where the chemicals used, which are necessary for fiber production, are extracted and fully reused.
