We are increasingly using preferred fibres that have less impact on people, animals, nature, and the climate compared to their conventional counterparts. These range from organic and/or recycled fibres to fibres with an improved procurement process. Additionally, we strive to employ enhanced production processes or complete manufacturing within Europe, as well as material innovations and designs developed for the circular economy, wherever possible.

Manufacturing processes such as leather tanning, fabric dyeing, or denim washing procedures significantly contribute to climate change, global environmental pollution, and biodiversity loss due to their high resource consumption, the use of potentially harmful chemicals, and greenhouse gas emissions. In order to make the manufacturing of our products more responsible and to reduce their environmental impact, we have improved both our production methods and the sourcing of our raw materials to stricter standards.

LEATHER WORKING GROUP
Leather has been used by humans in various ways for thousands of years. It is a durable natural material characterized by high tear resistance, durability, and elasticity. As a member of the Leather Working Group (LWG), we support more responsible leather production. Our leather comes from tanneries that operate according to the LWG audit protocol and have received at least a Bronze rating. This audit standard assesses the environmental impact of leather production. The Leather Working Group aims to drive improvements in the global leather supply chain. This includes increasing supply chain transparency, reducing waste and emissions, and improving chemical management.

A DENIM STORY
Our goal is to produce our most sustainable denims and make our jeans production more environmentally friendly. Our approach is based on three pillars - the use of so-called preferred fibers (e.g., recycled cotton), the use of more responsible technologies for dyeing yarns, and measuring the environmental compatibility of our washing methods. For a Marc O'Polo jeans product to meet our high standard, at least the third pillar must be adhered to, and the overall score of the washing methods must be rated with 'Low Impact Process' (determined using the EIM software for measuring environmental impacts by Jeanologia®). The more pillars that are fulfilled, the more environmentally friendly the jeans.
