"WE CANNOT TRANSFORM THIS INDUSTRY WITHOUT COLLABORATIONS." - SUSANNE SCHWENGER
Time and again, finding the right innovations for our vision of sustainability presents us with challenges. Partnerships have a crucial role to play in this.
GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD (GOTS)
Our organic products which are certified as per the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) are checked by independent third parties at every stage of the textile production chain to ensure that they contain organically grown material. The GOTS also requires compliance with social and environmental criteria during processing and sets out stringent specifications regarding content and production processes. GOTS-certified products feature the organisation’s logo on their care label.
ORGANIC CONTENT STANDARD (OCS)
Our products which are certified as per the Organic Content Standard (OCS) are checked by independent third parties at every stage of the textile production chain to ensure that they contain organically grown material. OCS-certified products feature the organisation’s logo on their care label.
RESPONSIBLE WOOL STANDARD (RWS)
The sheep’s wool for our Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) products comes from certified sheep farms where attention is paid to animal welfare, environmental protection, and the responsible, sustainable use of agricultural land. All stages of the textile production chain are monitored by independent third parties to check that the sheep’s wool used for the product comes from RWS-certified farms. RWS-certified products feature the organisation’s logo on their care label.
LEATHER WORKING GROUP (LWG)
We have been a member of the Leather Working Group (LWG) since July 2020. This multi-stakeholder organisation has set itself the objective of fostering responsible changes in environmental practices within the leather industry and making these more transparent by means of recognised procedures. The LWG Audit Protocol is the standard with the strictest requirements and the highest acceptance. To support ecologically responsible leather production, we source the leather for many of our products from LWG-certified tanneries. For more information, please visit www.leatherworkinggroup.com.
FAIR WEAR FOUNDATION (FWF)
The Fair Wear Foundation is a globally active, independent multi-stakeholder initiative. Together with its 130+ members, it is committed to improving conditions at textile factories in Asia, Europe and Africa. By joining Fair Wear, we undertook to have an annual audit performed by the initiative. This brand performance check assesses and publishes details of the firm’s practices in areas such as procurement. Audits are also carried out at production facilities to scrutinise working conditions. On the basis of this, improvements are developed in conjunction with suppliers. The FWF also offers training programmes for factories and a complaints procedure for workers. As part of its membership, MARC O’POLO has to publish a regular social report on its progress, which further enhances transparency.
MARC O’POLO has been a member of amfori since 2009. We take part in the amfori BSCI to support ongoing improvements in working conditions within the global value chain. The amfori BSCI Code of Conduct is based on internationally recognised labour standards such as the ILO core labour standards, the UN guiding principles and the OECD guidelines. It sets out the requirements which apply to issues such as working hours, forced labour, discrimination, child labour and remuneration. Audits are conducted by accredited, independent companies at production sites (primarily in high-risk countries) to monitor compliance with the amfori BSCI Code of Conduct.
‘OUR CLEANEST JEANS PROJECT’
Making denim is one of the most environmentally damaging processes in the fashion industry. That is why we created OUR CLEANEST JEANS PROJECT. OUR CLEANEST JEANS PROJECT denotes our most sustainable denim styles. The project is based on three individual requirements: selecting sustainable raw materials, using dyeing processes that are innovative and conscientious, and finishing the denim with resource-saving wash treatments. Because we care for the planet.
